SOLVED: Why is my Webcam Blurry in OBS?
Step 1: The Resolution Bug
By default, OBS tries to pick a "safe" resolution for your webcam to prevent lag. Often, this is 480p or even 360p. Even if you have a 4K Logitech Brio, OBS might be downscaling it.
- Right-click your Video Capture Device in OBS.
- Select Properties.
- Find Resolution/FPS Type. It usually says "Device Default".
- Switch it to Custom.
- In the Resolution dropdown, manually pick the highest number (e.g., 1920x1080).
Step 2: Check Your Bitrate
If your camera looks good in the preview but blurry on stream, your Streaming Bitrate is too low.
- 720p 60fps: Needs at least 4,500 Kbps.
- 1080p 60fps: Needs at least 6,000 Kbps.
If you try to stream 1080p at 2,000 Kbps, the encoder will destroy your quality to make it fit, resulting in a blocky, blurry mess.
Step 3: Lighting is Key
A $3,000 camera looks like trash in the dark. A $50 webcam looks amazing with good light. Webcams increase "ISO" (digital gain) in low light, which adds noise/grain. More light = lower ISO = cleaner image.
